Family time at Villa Santa Cruz offers a unique opportunity for experiences that will create memories to last a lifetime. Not only will a stay at the Villa give your whole family the feeling of living in a remote paradise, but it will also give you the time to slow down and reconnect with each other.
The Villa’s Grand Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi offer hours of entertainment for kids of all ages. The littlest guests will love the Baja shelf (we call it a playita – “tiny beach”) – a large shallow area only 6 to 8 inches deep that is like a built-in wading pool. Older children will play pool games and jump off the Jacuzzi into the pool and back again. Adults can enjoy a margarita at the swim-up bar, and hopefully steal away from the family to laze on the poolside hammocks and suntan on comfortable chaise lounges.
Beach Walks and Seashells
Get the whole family onto the sand for a morning or afternoon beach walk. Head out the Villa’s beach gate and revel in the wide expanse of pristine coastline. Look for whale spouts (Nov – Mar), and collect seashell souvenirs. Our friendly Villa dogs will join you and keep you company during your walk. The Villa’s secluded location means that you’ll likely have the entire beach to yourselves.
Families love climbing up the spiral staircase of the Villa’s Palapa and hanging out in the Crow’s Nest – a cushioned hideaway with the best view on the property! It is perfect for whale watching and gives you a front row seat to the sunset.
Have a competitive streak? Challenge your friends and family to a game of croquet or bocce. The Villa’s wide grass lawn will set the stage for a tournament of champions.
Stargazing & Constellations
After the sun goes down, head up to the Villa’s Roof Terrace to delight in the night sky. Our secluded location, away from the hustle and bustle of city living and light noise, gives guests a rare look at a true starry, starry night. With the help of our constellation guide, you’ll be able to find Orion’s belt, the Big and Little Dipper, and even see a planet or two…keep your eye out for shooting stars!
Floating Lanterns Release
Spend the afternoon decorating paper wish lanterns and then release them at night into the Villa’s Grand Swimming Pool. Watch them float across the water – so glowy and magical! This is a special way to wind up your time at the Villa, reminisce about favorite moments from your stay and make a wish for the future.
Head into town for an authentic cooking experience at El Refugio Mezcaleria, focusing on the preparation of native Mexican dishes with fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. The cost is $950 pesos/person (~$55 USD) and includes a 3 hour class, lunch and a shot of mezcal or beer. Classes are Wednesday (from 11 – 2pm) or Saturday by special request. Noel, the chef, shares cooking tips and information on Mexican culture, bringing lots of humor to the class. The menu typically includes a few salsas, mole verde and sometimes ceviche.
